Estrutura de Missão V Centenário Fernão de Magalhães/Task Group for the 5th centenary of Portuguese Navigator Ferdinand Magellan (2019-2022)

October 20, 2020 is the 500th anniversary of the discovery of the Strait of Magellan, and marks the Pavilion of Knowledge is the stage for a series of initiatives that celebrate the approximation of different cultures and the sharing of knowledge. As part of this celebration, three small unmanned sailboats, equipped with GPS, will be personalized and launched into the sea from the Strait of Magellan, symbolizing the three ships that crossed it for the first time (Victoria, Trinidad and Concepción). The goal is to promote ocean literacy and the rapprochement and interaction between young people from different cultures and geographic points, feeding the legacy of Magellan’s expedition.

The boats will be launched next month.
