About Us and Boat Progress
After their miniboat kit’s arrival and the excitement of M/B Stormy Normy, crewmates named their miniboat: CROATOAN’S REVENGE!
“We went with this name because of its fascinating history. The name Croatoan was left on a tree on Roanoke Island dating back to 1590. Signaling that the colonists on that island that John White had left may have moved to a different island named “Croatoan”. These people who were on Roanoke were soon to be known as the Lost Colony which is very significantly known on the ground that we live on today “Roanoke Island”. This is why we chose the name “Croatoan’s Revenge” to remember those who were on the island and to represent our amazing history.”
December 2024
Significant boat progress from All Crew occurred during the fall and winter months.

Ocean Science Data from Onboard Sensor System
The location reports from the main GPS will show on the map at the top of this page here (which updates hourly with new positions if available). Here below is where you can see the data reporting from the second GPS which is connected to a custom sensor package. In addition to reporting location with a secondary GPS tracker, this system is also collecting air temperature, water temperature, and orientation of the boat. Please note that the map below will only the last 7 days of data and may include invalid points and data. If you are interested in looking at the data in a different format from the whole voyage, contact us.

March 2025: Celebration Ceremony and Launch
Students were able to share their work during a schoolwide assembly with their peers, teachers, and role models such as Charles “CP” Perry, a key player in making this project possible!
March 26 Update:
On the morning of March 26, 2025, Charles took the miniboat out with Captain Greg and the F/V FISHIN FRENZY crew to launch the miniboat just off the coast. He even Facetime’d Kelsey (miniboat lead at Manteo) and Cassie (director of Educational Passages) while it happened!
