We shared TWO newsletters in the month of February. Here are the highlights:
Do you LOVE marine education and helping to protect our world ocean?
Then gather your crew, because it’s time for… the 6TH ANNUAL RECYCLE REGATTA!
This design challenge is a fun, hands-on, S.T.E.A.M activity that’s primary focus is to teach learners of all ages about keeping our environment debris-free. It can be facilitated anywhere and from anyone: in a classroom or at home. It’s also free to enter the competition, thanks to our partnership with New England Science and Sailing (NESS) and the North American Marine Environmental Protections Association (NAMEPA).
Explore more at recycleregatta.info and submit your entries by April 30!
TRAFFIC REPORTS AND EXCITING UPDATES
⛵ We visited Gilford Elementary School (NH, USA) for a fun day of learning and connecting
Students in grades K-4 built and launched M/B TAPPING THE SEAS in Nov. 2023. Its journey has tracked 13,000 km so far – and is now in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean!

Students made predictions of where it may land and tried out a sink-or-float activity to prep themselves for the Recycle Regatta.
🤓 Survey says…
“It is project based learning at its finest.”
- “My favorite part about the miniboat program is the connection it builds between students from different parts of the world – truly shows one big ocean!”
- “Our students have made a lot of learning through this project”
Our Strategic Planning is now underway! Our staff and board just completed our first ever retreat and had an inspiring and collaborative experience that will help improve EP. Thank you to our facilitator, Allison Grappone, and to all of you who provided such valuable feedback through the recent survey.
A long-awaited moment arrived this week as the M/B Crimson Voyager and M/B The Legendary were relaunched together!
After landing in Portugal in 2018 and 2019, these boats were delivered to Escola Azul schools in Vila Nova de Gaia. On February 25, they were relaunched by the crew of Transinsular’s M/V MONTE BRASIL during their transit from Lisbon to Madeira, Portugal. A big thanks goes to all who have made this possible.
Read more about why this moment is so special, and how these little boats can bring so many people on board in our latest blog post: A Voyage of Commitment and Connection.
To track the boats in real time, head over to our Path Analysis Tool. Where do you think will they go next?
TRAFFIC REPORT AND EXCITING UPDATES
⛵More news from Portugal…the M/B Raven KASTER has resurfaced
PREVIOUSLY: Since its landing in Portugal (July 2024), the Raven KASTER miniboat has been waiting at the MARE lab while they could find a school to continue its legacy.
- CURRENT-LY: Students at Escola Secundaria Cristina Torres in Figueira da Foz received the Raven KASTER last week and are eager to join the teams in Ireland and Canada.
🌊 M/B Wolverine and M/B Greyhound 5: Same launch – different journeys
- PREVIOUSLY: Both miniboats were launched off the east coast of Japan on January 25 (the first of 2025!)
- CURRENT-LY:
Even though they were launched 5 minutes apart, they are taking different routes! It leaves us with much anticipation to continue checking their tracks to see where they end up.
⛵M/B Sea Eagle almost landed in France, but is now…
PREVIOUSLY: Brought to the port of Charleston, South Carolina, USA in May 2023 and loaded on a cargo ship to head to the Gulf Stream for launch.
CURRENT-LY: The Sea Eagle cruised less than TWO nautical miles from shore of France on Feb 4, only to veer back out, up, and around, into the English Channel! Will it make landfall in France after all or go to Ireland? United Kingdom? Or somewhere else entirely?
